There's still a Pandemic in case the Government has forgotten

COVID-19 cases in PH

If you haven't heard the news, a bill was filed last June 25 that aims to rename the Ninoy Aquino International Airport to "Paliparang Pandaigidig ng Pilipinas".

As some have joked, this will be shortened to PAPAPI, which really give me a dose of laughter.

But kidding aside, the government and these lawmakers seem to forget one thing: we're still under a pandemic.

Really, there is no problem if you want to pass this bill - but keep in mind that there are more important things to focus on, especially dealing with COVID-19.

This just shows how f*cked up our government in setting their priorities.

As of recent data, there's about 33,000+ recorded cases of COVID-19 here in the Philippines.

And what are they doing right now? Here, untimely filing this bill instead of helping in thinking of ways to mitigate this outbreak.

Really, there has been too much smokescreens this administration has done. Let's start with the unjust shutting down of ABS-CBN. In times where people need a media outlet they can rely on for current events and news, they abruptly force to close the doors of this network. And for the record, they haven't disobey any laws as what the allegations said. And if someone who reads this persists that they have "tax evasion" issues, please do your research. I've done mine and it's not my responsibility to do yours.

Now we have this gut-churning bill that the administration wants to approved: The Anti-Terrorism Bill. This sick government cannot seem to handle their critics well. They've used the red tagging card before and now they ramped it up and resort to this monstrosity.

You see this bill should not be passed as :
  • It impedes our freedom as a sovereign country. The proposed law is very vague as anyone can be tagged as a "terrorist" without further proof . By mere suspicion, everyone can be jailed without any legal proceedings. Just because you practiced your right, you are already "committing" a crime. Pretty bullshit right?
  •  In line with the latter, this violates Article 3, Section 1 of the 1987 Constitution: No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law, nor shall any person be denied the equal protection of the laws. This deprives us with basic human right.
  • I may be riding the conspiracy train but this bill sounds like a way of ramping up a fascist leadership. We know how the current administration is being totalitarian with its ruling from the start and they want to give more way to this.
What we need right now is a proper solution. Well, this would not happen really if on the first place, the administration performed precautionary measures. We've been calling out for a travel ban earlier this year, but the administration just shrugged their shoulders. They want to prioritise their political agenda over the security of their countrymen. When three foreigners who contracted the virus entered the country, stricter measures wasn't implemented. The Health Secretary's head is up in the clouds thinking that we have a resilient healthcare system. The president, like he's always been, take the matters as if it's nothing. He's joking around saying "Sampalin ko yang veerus na yan"  employing the same negligence he showed during the Taal Volcano eruption.

And when the outbreak worsens, the first thing that the administration did is to point fingers: Duque blaming the health workers for being negligent (the audacity). President Duterte twisting his words saying he already foresaw the pandemic and  warned us about it (as far as I remember you did the other way around). We employed a strict lockdown with no detailed action plans to fight the disease. Instead of flattening the curve of outbreak, we've flattened the curve of economy. Which forces us to go back and work, accepting what we called as "new normal". Just a waste of time really. It's like saying "wala, andiyan na yan, tanggapin na lang natin." What the actual f*ck is that?!

And then there's this epal senator/first lady who proposed a program the defeats the purpose of containing the virus and employing strict measures.

The president on the other hand, goes to an unlimited loaning spree and ask for too much emergency powers. In the first place, you are the president; you have the powers that you have already and all the budgets is in your hands already, what are you asking for? Where's your concrete solutions?

And to top it all, there are still people who believe that this administration and president is the best and brightest despite all the oppression that's been happening. There are also apolitical people who doesn't seem to care as long as they are not affected. This is more than worst.

That's enough venting out for me. Honestly, I'm so tired with what's going on with my country. Sometimes I just want to ignore this and live my life, but I can't. I can't just stand here and do nothing. So still I will try my best and hope that a sliver of hope will come soon.

And to Paolo Duterte and the other 2 who proposed the bill, can you think of other bills to file please?
